Pace 7, Decatur 5
McKoy Park -- In the final home game for Decatur's nine seniors, they put up a great fight despite a grave shortage of
pitching. Anterrance Bell's seventh inning home run drew the Bulldogs within two, but Pace was just too strong. Jonathan Coe
pitched four strong innings in relief, giving up only one unearned run. Eliot Johnson contributed two hits and Carlos Cardoza
picked up a pair of RBI in the seniors' final home game. Decatur will play the region 7 champion, #9 Westside-Augusta, next
friday in the first round of the state playoffs (Decatur's 3rd consecutive trip).
Decatur 4, Paideia 2 (8 Innings)
Python Park -- A scrappy Paideia team gave the bulldogs everything they could possibly handle on Tuesday. Freshman Riley
Smith and Senior Jonathan Coe (who got the win) both pitched an incredible game, allowing only one earned run between them.
Decatur got RBIs from Cody Heermans and Ryan Guinn, to go along with Carlos Cardoza's game-winning double in the top of the
eigth. Decatur came out flat, but managed an ugly win. Pace visits McKoy Park tomorrow in the final regular season game for
both teams.
Decatur 5, Holy Innocents 3
Holy Innocents -- Decatur went a long way towards securing a playoff spot with a victory over Holy Innocents on the arm
of Cody Heermans. Heermans pitched an incredible game for the Bulldogs, bolstered by two home-runs from Ryan Guinn and some
clutch hitting from Ben Holmes. Carlos Cardoza played excellent defense at second base. Decatur is in sole possession of the
fourth and final playoff spot from Region 5. The Bulldogs play Paideia tomorrow at Python Park.
Decatur 18, Crim 0
McKoy Park -- It was Senior Night for Decatur, as they pasted the Crim Eagles. All nine seniors started and played
the whole game for Decatur, with Jerome Brown getting his first win on the season. Anterrance Bell hit a home-run to take
the team-lead away from Ryan Guinn in that category. Congratulations to the Bulldog seniors: D-Train Dabney, Ben Holmes, Marcus
Gadson, Jerome Brown, Jonathan Coe, Anterrance Bell, Cody Heermans, Carlos Carodza, & Eliot Johnson.
Decatur 15, Carver 0
Price Middle School -- Carver sent their best pitcher to the mound and he pitched a great game for his team. He had all
the Decatur players talking about his talent. Unfortunately, he plays for Carver and there was little he could do. Decatur
mounted 15 runs shortly with Drake Rood getting the win and Ben Holmes closing out the game. Senior catcher Eliot Johnson
went 3-4 with four RBI and a triple in victory.
Walker 13, Decatur 11
Walker -- Freshman Riley Smith took the mound for Decatur and pitched admirably in his first career big game start. Unfortunately
errors cost the Bulldogs and put them at an 8-1 hole. With big hits from Ryan Guinn and Marcus Gadson the Bulldogs crawled
to within one run, when Eliot Johnson's 2 RBI single put them ahead 11-10. A home-run by Walker's Shortstop, then, put the
Wolverines ahead for good. Decatur played a solid game, where their lack of pitching depth due to injuries hurt them badly.
Lovett 12, Decatur 3
Lovett -- Senior Jonathan Coe picked up 3 RBI in the loss.
Decatur 16, Crim 1
McKoy Park -- Freshman Riley Smith picked up his second career win with a complete game. Anterrance Bell hit his fourth
home run of the season to tie Ryan Guinn for the team lead. Senior Ben Holmes went three for three with a double to lead the
Bulldogs' potent offense. Decatur plays at Lovett on Saturday.
Decatur 12, Grady 2
McKoy Park -- The Decatur Bulldogs sleepwalked through the first few innings against a much lesser opponent but
quickly turned it on for a smooth victory. Senior Jonathan Coe pitched a complete game to get the win. Offensively, Jerome
Brown contributed three hits and two runs while Ryan Guinn crushed his fourth home-run of the year. Seniors Cody Heermans
and Eliot Johnson also played solid baseball, while Drake Rood picked up his first career varsity hit.
Decatur 10, Paideia 0
McKoy Park -- Ace Cody Heermans surprisingly toed the rubber against an unusually weak Paideia team. He pitched
well for five innings when the Bulldogs secured the victory. Senior Anterrance Bell homered and doubled in the win.
Decatur 18, Cross Keys 0
Cross Keys -- Senior catcher Eliot Johnson made his first career start on the mound to pick up the win. Every Decatur
player contributed in this massacre.
Decatur 9, Pace Academy 6
Pace -- Decatur picked up a huge win against the Pace Academy Knights, dealing the Knights only their second region loss.
Sophomore Will Atchley pitched an incredible game and was backed up by solid defense around the field. Drake Rood came in for
relief to get the win. Decatur's bats finally caught on as every Bulldog starter got a hit. This game marked Decatur's
third consecutive victory against Pace, after a twenty-plus year drought against the Knights.
Congratulations to infielder Carlos Cardoza for signing with the Georgia State Panthers!!!
